Jason Isbell readies post-Truckers sophomore set, tour

Former Drive-By Truckers singer/guitarist Jason Isbell and his new band, The 400 Unit, have assembled their first round of concerts to support their forthcoming self-titled album.

The Southern rockers are scheduled to play a handful of US dates through mid-January before officially kicking off the outing Feb. 12 in their home state of Alabama. Isbell and company will hit about 20 cities in the eastern half of the country, plus Toronto, and then wrap the trek in late March following performances at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX.

Sons of Roswell, Benji Hughes and Deer Tick will take turns supporting the tour, which is detailed below.

Isbell is getting ready to release his second record apart from the Drive-By Truckers (and first with The 400 Unit) Feb. 17 on the Lightning Rod label. The frontman, who co-produced the album with his band and Matt Pence, said he wants to make it clear the recording is a group effort.

"I want it to be known that it's something we all did together," Isbell said in a statement. "Even though I wrote the songs, it was a very inclusive project."

The album's lead track, "Seven-Mile Island," is being previewed at Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit's MySpace page.

Isbell left Drive-By Truckers on amicable terms last year and put out his solo debut, "Sirens of the Ditch." Since then, he and The 400 Unit--featuring keyboardist Derry DeBorja, bassist Jimbo Hart and guitarist Browan Lollar--have played more than 200 shows, according to a press release.
