3 Doors Down returns to the road next month

Alt-rockers 3 Doors Down have mapped out their first run of US dates for 2009 as they continue to support their self-titled release.

The trek, which launches Jan. 22 in Reading, PA, currently comprises 17 concerts covering the South, Midwest and East Coast through late February. Multiple shows are booked in Florida, Texas and Louisiana. Details are listed below.

3 Doors Down just wrapped a slate of makeup gigs originally scheduled last summer when singer Brad Arnold suffered from a bout of laryngitis. The rescheduled dates will continue into next year.

The band has been tearing up the road to support its fourth studio album, which shot to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in June, becoming 3DD's second chart topper. The self-titled set has scored mainstream- and modern-rock hits with "It's Not My Time" and "Train," and two more cuts, "Let Me Be Myself" and "Citizen/Soldier," are currently making waves on the adult and mainstream-rock charts, respectively. All of those tunes are streaming at the group's MySpace page.

After touring behind 2005's "Seventeen Days," 3 Doors Down took some long-overdue time off, and then spent nearly a year in the studio working on its latest album.

"What it took was for us to take some real time off, go home, and then gather again as the band we know how to be," Arnold explained in the band's bio. "It was so appropriate to self-title the album because after taking what amounted to almost a year-long break, we were hungry for each other's company."

The Mississippi/Nashville-based quintet, which originally formed in 1995, had been playing more than 200 shows a year, stopping only to record.

"Prior to making our new album, the average stretch we would have off would be a couple weeks here, four-five weeks there," bass player Todd Harrell said. "We needed to get home and get our roots back under us."

The group also found time to tend to its homegrown Better Life Foundation, which has raised more than $2 million for local children's charities since its inception in 2003, according to 3DD's bio.

During its nearly 14-year career, 3 Doors Down has sold more than 15 million records, landing two No. 1s, three multi-platinum sellers and six chart-topping hits.
