Alkaline Trio powers Pick Up The Phone Tour
Alkaline Trio has been tapped to headline next spring's "Pick Up The Phone Tour," which aims to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.
The tour of college campuses, set to roll out in April, will also feature alt-rockers Anberlin and newcomers Single File . Dates, venues and ticket pre-sale information is expected to surface early next year, according to a press release.
Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba said his band is thrilled to support the cause with tour partners including 1-800 SUICIDE The National Hopeline Network.
"Suicide is a very permanent solution to what may be a temporary problem and it feels great to be a part of something that is purely there to help people in times of desperation," Skiba said in a statement. "If one life is saved because of the hotline, then I consider it a success and we're very proud to, in any way, be a part of something so positive."
Online entertainment community Synclive.com will air live performances via the Internet and provide an immediate confidential connection to fans in need.
Each tour stop will include the Alive! Mental Health Fair to provide concert-goers with information, therapy and local help resources, and organizers will also offer education in suicide prevention in hopes of recruiting volunteers to staff local peer-to-peer hotlines and online crisis-support centers at the colleges.
Pick Up The Phone is a campaign partnership between non-profit organizations To Write Love on Her Arms and PostSecret to provide support for the work of the National Hopeline Network and the Kristin Brooks Hope Center. Further information about the campaign can be found at Pick Up The Phone's website.
In addition to supporting the cause, Alkaline Trio is backing its sixth studio album, "Agony & Irony," which debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 last July. The Chicago-based alt-rockers plan to start the New Year with a major tour of Europe.
Anberlin released its fourth studio album and Universal/Republic debut, "New Surrender," in September and also scored the No. 13 slot on The Billboard 200. That Florida-based outfit will mount a North American tour next month. Details can be found at Anberlin's website.
Denver-based power trio Single File recently signed with Reprise Records and is expected to release its full-length debut next spring.
