2008's Best Albums: Critics dial up TV on the Radio
The sound of Brooklyn's TV on the Radio is impossible to place into any neat genre, but there's no doubt that the sound--whatever it is--caught the ears of LiveDaily's critics in 2008.
"Dear Science," TV on the Radio's third major release, could be the fullest realization yet of the group's experimental--yet easily digestible--music. The band is just as comfortable and successful exploring electronic and ambient directions as it is more straightforward fare, and is at its best when all of those elements come together. On "Dear Science," it all comes together.
Fifteen LiveDaily critics submitted their 10 favorite albums of 2008, and six placed "Dear Science" among their selections. Seven acts--Metallica , Fleet Foxes , Kings of Leon , Bon Iver , Vampire Weekend , My Morning Jacket and The Black Keys --appeared on four Top 10 lists. The Raconteurs and Deerhunter appeared on three lists apiece, and rounded out the Top 10. Also garnering three votes apiece but just missing the cut were Sigur Ros and Kanye West.
Overall rankings were determined by first grouping albums by the number of ballots on which they appeared. Ties were then broken by weighting votes based on where albums ranked on individual lists.
