B.B. King fills 2009 calendar
B.B. King , who continues to tour relentlessly at age 83, has extended his non-stop road trip well into 2009.
The blues legend's current trek launched in September and now stretches through next spring. King, whose full itinerary is listed below, opened the New Year last week with a Jan. 2 performance in Santa Ynez, CA, and he's currently set to play nearly 30 shows across the US through mid-April. During the month of February, he'll co-headline concerts with fellow blues-rock legend Buddy Guy.
King, a 14-time Grammy winner, scored the highest-debuting solo album of his nearly 60-year career with his latest release, "One Kind Favor." The set, which surfaced in August, debuted at No. 37 on The Billboard 200 and currently holds the No. 3 spot on the Top Blues Albums chart after 17 weeks.
"One Kind Favor," produced by T Bone Burnett (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Roy Orbison), features covers of old blues songs that inspired King as a young man, and was made to sound like it was recorded in the '50s. Players include Dr. John on piano, Nathan East on standup bass and Jim Keltner on drums. The track "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" is streaming at King's MySpace page.
In 2008, King also offered up "Live," a DVD/CD collection recorded during several 2006 concerts at his own B.B. King's Blues Clubs in Nashville and Memphis. The DVD comprises 18 classic King tracks, while the CD features 12 songs from the live sets.
The blues icon, who started his recording career in the '40s, has released more than 50 albums and been inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In September, he was honored with the opening of the $14 million B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in his hometown of Indianola, MS.
