'Search' goes on for Son Volt in 2009

Alt-rockers Son Volt will hit the road early in 2009 for a slate of headlining shows behind the band's most recent studio set, 2007's "The Search."

Frontman Jay Farrar's latest incarnation of the group's ever-shifting lineup kicks off the outing Feb. 13 in Louisville, KY, and will make stops in 13 Southern and Southwest cities through the end of February. Details are included below.

"The Search," which surfaced early in 2007, was the fifth album to bear Son Volt's name, and second since frontman Farrar resurrected the band with 2005's "Okemah and the Melody of Riot," which featured a completely new lineup from previous Son Volt incarnations.

Farrar--who formed Son Volt in 1994 after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, which also featured current Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy--said on the group's website that he was taking care of "unfinished business" when he revived the band after a five-year hiatus, explaining that Son Volt represents "a kind of aesthetic that I want to continue doing."

"The solo stuff had a liberating effect out of just doing something different for several years," he added. "But ultimately, I felt getting back to Son Volt was something that had to happen."
