Faith Hill, Brad Paisley Lead CMA Award Nominees
Faith Hill and Brad Paisley each garnered nominations in six Country Music Awards categories on Tuesday (8/1), and Lee Ann Womack and the Dixie Chicks were close behind with five nods apiece. The nominees for the 34th Annual CMA Awards were announced by Womack and Lonestar at a press conference in Nashville.
Hill--who is now on tour with her husband Tim McGraw--picked up nominations for Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year (with McGraw for ``Let's Make Love") and Music Video of the Year. She could also win two additional CMA’s for her co-production credits on her album “Breathe” and its title track. The song "Breathe” is also nominated in the Song of the Year category; the award goes only to the songwriters and publishers.
Paisley, winner of the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist award earlier this year, was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year and the Horizon Award (which recognizes up-and-coming artists).
Womack’s nominations were in the Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year (with Sons of the Desert) as well as Music Video of the Year categories.
The Dixie Chicks picked up five nominations for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year (with Asleep at the Wheel for "Roly Poly'') and Music Video of the Year.
Alan Jackson was nominated in four categories: Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year (with George Strait for "Murder on Music Row'').
CBS television will broadcast the three-hour CMA Awards ceremony from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Oct. 4.Vince Gill will host the telecast.
