The Presidents approve spring headline trek
Alt-rockers The Presidents of the United States of America will hit the road this spring for another round of headlining dates in support of the band's album from last year.
The group, which first heads overseas for an early spring European slog next month, kicks off the outing April 15 in New Haven, CT. Details on the nine-city jaunt are included below; international dates can be found at the band's website.
Surfacing last spring, "These Are the Good Times People" follows 2004's "Love Everybody," and is the Presidents' second release on the group's own PUSA Inc. label. The new album, featuring the first single, "Mixed Up SOB," was produced by Kurt Bloch (Robyn Hitchcock, Mudhoney), former frontman of defunct Seattle garage-rock legends The Fastbacks.
The Presidents plan to release three EPs this year, all of them exclusively available through iTunes. The first two sets, "Rot in the Sun" and "Ladybug," are available now; the third, "Bad Times," will be released March 24. All three EPs feature a song from the "Good Times" album, a previously unreleased b-side, and a music video accompanying the title cut.
The band rose to fame in the mid-'90s thanks to the radio hits "Lump," "Kitty" and "Peaches," which helped propel the group's 1995 self-titled debut to multi-platinum status. The group disbanded in 1997 so that frontman Chris Ballew could spend more time with his family, but reunited in 2000. Guitbass player Andrew McKeag (McKeag and Ballew play modified guitars called, respectively, "guitbass" and "bassitar") replaced founding member Dave Dederer in 2004 after the latter left the band to spend more time with his family.
