Allman Brothers Band extends New York residency

The Allman Brothers Band , who last year had to cancel a planned 15-show residency in New York City, are making good in 2009 by padding their recently announced 10-show engagement with another five nights.

Set to take place at the newly renovated Beacon Theatre, the group's schedule now runs from March 9 through March 28, with tickets for the newly added dates scheduled to hit the box office Saturday (2/6), according to the band's publicist. Details are included below.

Last year, The Allmans had to scrap a planned 15-show March residency because lead vocalist/keyboardist Gregg Allman was recuperating from Hepatitis C treatments. He was well enough to resume the group's touring schedule in the fall and tackle a subsequent solo jaunt that wrapped up last month.

"I feel great," Allman said in a statement released between tours and after doctors pronounced him free of the disease. "We did about 20 shows this summer and we were really hitting it."

Assuming the upcoming shows come off without a hitch, The Allman Brothers will have played the Beacon 190 times between 1989 and the end of next month.

The group plans to hit the road later this year for a "40th anniversary celebration tour," details for which are forthcoming at the group's website, according to a press release.
