Jack's Mannequin rides with 'The Glass Passenger'

Pop-rock balladeers Jack's Mannequin are getting ready to launch a world tour to support their sophomore effort, "The Glass Passenger."

The group, fronted by Something Corporate's Andrew McMahon, will start later this month with treks through Australia, Germany and the UK. The US leg of the tour--which kicks off March 30 in San Francisco and criss-crosses the country through late May--currently comprises nearly 30 club/theater gigs, and more are expected.

Stops include a two-night stand at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom and festival performances at Memphis' Beale Street Music Festival and West Palm Beach, FL's SunFest. Jack's Mannequin has also booked a late-June performance at Milwaukee Summerfest. US dates are listed below and those oversees can be found at the band's website.

Presale tickets for the US jaunt, which features singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson in the opening slot, will be available beginning Friday (2/6), and the general-public on-sale starts Feb. 14.

"The Glass Passenger" surfaced in September and reached No. 8 on The Billboard 200. The set follows Jack's Mannequin's 2005 debut, "Everything In Transit," which was released just as singer/songwriter/pianist McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia.

The then-22-year-old was forced to postpone all music-related activities and immediately undergo chemotherapy, which led to a bout with pneumonia that nearly killed him. After going into remission following a stem-cell transplant from his sister, McMahon was able to make a full recovery.

During an interview late last year, the performer told LiveDaily "The Glass Passenger" tells the tale of his recovery and subsequent moving on.

"[The lyrics speak] to the subject matter of the record, which is: There is an impermanence to life and we don't always get to be the one steering our own ship," McMahon said.

The record's lead single, "The Resolution," made it into the Top 30 at modern-rock and Triple A radio, and the video (directed by "Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer) has remained a Top 20 fixture at MTV's website since September, according to a press release. A new live performance of the song, filmed in New York City, debuted on MTV Hits and MTV.com earlier this week.

Jack's Mannequin also has plans to release an iTunes-exclusive digital EP March 17. The as-yet-untitled set will include five songs recently recorded live in New York City, according to a press release.
