Lamb of God fans could get perks with their new music

Rockers Lamb of God are giving 100 fans the chance to win prizes like an overseas trip to see the band play a UK festival, a barbecue with lead singer Randy Blythe and the opportunity to sing with the act during soundcheck, a plan hatched by their manager, Larry Mazer.

"Everybody's been out there crying the blues about,'The record business is over,' 'The downloads are killing us,' 'The economy is killing us,'" Mazer said during an interview with LiveDaily. "I've taken the position--being a manager for 35 years--that everybody should look inward and see that the problem is not all of those things.

"Even in a recession, January was the biggest month in the history of movies for a long time. If you put great stuff out, people will still buy it. Nickelback sold 7 million records last year. Linkin Park sold millions of records. So the fact of the matter is, I think labels have lost the plot as far as signing great acts and marketing them to death. This Lamb of God record, I think, is the best one they've made of their career. And I wanted to come up with something to bring a little old-school pizazz back to how labels used to make launches of albums very unique, very exciting and fan driven, etc. Lamb of God having such a massive, loyal fanbase, I wanted to come up with something that I felt really connected with fans."

Here's how it works: The first 100,000 copies of the new album, "Wrath," due in stores Feb. 24, will have a numbered ticket inside of them. Fans then visit a dedicated website, type in the number and answer three questions that are tied to the Bible, plagues, etc.

"Then the computer automatically selects 100 winners," Mazer said. "You go to a second page where there's 100 prizes and as you pick a prize, it then deletes it. The idea is that hopefully in the first four or five days, all 100 of the prizes are taken and that's it. This is the rock-'n'-roll business. It's supposed to be fun and unique and cool or whatever. All I've tried to do is take a stale business and inject a little fun in it."

Other prizes include a drum kit, televisions, vouchers for tickets to see the band on tour in the US and introducing the band on stage.

"I went to the band and they loved the idea," Mazer said. "I spent two months trying to come up with a list of prizes. It was a very cool list that Lamb of God fans would especially get excited about, like going to the UK to see them play a major festival; everybody who is a Lamb of God fan knows Randy Blythe is a major barbecue nut, he cooks barbecue when they're on the road for other bands, etc. I came up with this prize where a kid gets a barbecue at his house hosted by Randy Blythe, for his friends and whatever. Stuff like singing on stage [during] sound check. Once I started rolling with the prizes, it got very easy."
