Widespread Panic books mini-tour in April
Veteran jam band Widespread Panic has put together a "short but sweet" spring tour that includes six performances in two cities.
The Athens, GA-based group is set to play three intimate shows April 13-15 at Orlando, FL's House of Blues, and then hit The Wharf stage in Orange Beach, AL, April 17-19. The latter set of gigs will feature guest spots from Keller Williams, North Mississippi Allstars and The Avett Brothers.
Presale tickets are available now, and the general-public on-sale starts Saturday (2/7) through Ticketmaster (LiveDaily's parent company).
As previously announced, Widespread Panic will also headline two days of July's 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, MN. The band's full schedule is listed below.
WP continues to support "Free Somehow," its 10th studio album and the follow-up to 2006's "Earth to America." The latest disc, which surfaced a year ago, was recorded in Nassau, Bahamas, and re-teamed the band with legendary producer Terry Manning (ZZ Top, Jimmy Buffett).
"Free Somehow" is Widespread Panic's first release with new guitarist Jimmy Herring, who replaced George McConnell in 2007. McConnell had joined Panic following the 2002 cancer death of founding member Michael Houser.
Over the last year, the band has also put out several live releases, including the third, fourth and fifth installments of "Driving Songs" and the DVD "Widespread Panic: Live from Austin, TX," which captures an "Austin City Limits" performance from 2000. Later this month, WP is expected to offer up its second archive release: the two-disc "Valdosta 1989."
Meanwhile, Widespread Panic is making a habit of paying it forward, recently donating nearly $70,000 worth of musical instruments, sheet music, computers and software to schools in Columbus, GA, according to the Ledger-Enquirer. The group's upcoming concerts are also doubling as food drives.
