Keith Urban escapes to the road
Keith Urban , who is set to release his fifth studio album next month, has revealed the first round of dates on his upcoming "Escape Together World Tour."
The country star will warm up with a March 17 gig at RodeoHouston before launching the US portion of the trek with a May 7-8 engagement in Uncasville, CT. So far, he has 30 stops booked across the country through August, and the outing is expected to grow to more than 50 dates throughout North America. Urban's current itinerary is listed below.
Special guests slated to take turns in the opening slot include Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean and The Zac Brown Band. Details about which acts will appear at each date are available at Urban's website.
Tickets go on sale beginning tomorrow (2/10) through Ticketmaster (LiveDaily's parent company) and, at Urban's insistence, a select number of seats will be available for $20 with no transaction fees, according to a press release.
"It's easy to see that people out there are hurting," Urban said in a statement. "And if these ticket prices can help some of them to let loose, forget about their daily grind and enjoy a night of music, then that's what we intend to give them and everyone else that comes out to our shows."
Urban said he's looking forward to seeing fans' reactions to material from his new album, "Defying Gravity," which is due March 31. The set's lead single, "Sweet Thing," is the singer's 18th Top 5 hit. The tune and its companion video are streaming at Urban's MySpace page.
Fans can also catch the two-time Grammy winner performing next Sunday (2/15) at Florida's Daytona 500 NASCAR race, which will air live on FOX-TV.
Last year, Urban finished touring behind his latest chart-topping studio album, 2006's "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing," as well as 2007's best-of collection, "Keith Urban Greatest Hits: 18 Kids."
