Iron & Wine plans all-request tour, rarities album
Iron & Wine has announced a brief run of headlining dates this spring in support of a forthcoming 2-CD rarities and outtakes release.
Fans of Sam Beam's singer/songwriter act will be granted input on the setlists for the coming trek, which kicks off May 4 in Seattle, and also lands in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City, with two dates planned at each tour stop. The itinerary below.
Throughout March, Iron & Wine fans will be able to vote for the songs they'd like to see performed at each stop on the five-city, 10-concert tour. Further information is available on Beam's website,
Due in stores May 19, "Around the Well" is a 2-CD/3-LP collection of rarities, including out-of-print and unreleased tracks from throughout the singer's career.
Beam spent six months recording 2007's "The Shepherd's Dog," his most recent studio album, with longtime producer Brian Deck and engineer Colin Studebaker.
Working mainly in his home studio in Texas, the singer expanded his instrumental palette on the new album by including help from his sister, Sarah Beam, along with Patrick McKinney and EJ Holowicki. Calexico's Paul Niehaus and Joey Burns also contributed to the recording, which debuted at No. 24 on The Billboard 200 album chart following its release last September.
According to a recent note on Iron & Wine's website, Beam has begin work on a new studio album, which he expects to release in spring 2010.
