Dave Matthews Band adds summer leg to upcoming trek

Dave Matthews Band will get fans psyched about its new album with an extensive spring/summer tour that now spans nearly 50 cities across North America.

The previously announced spring leg is set to kick off April 14 with a sold-out performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden and wrap May 9 following a two-night stand in Las Vegas. After a brief break, DMB will dive into summer with a May 27 gig in Darien Center, NY, and then criss-cross the US through early October. The band will also stop by Toronto and Montreal in June. Other highlights include multiple shows in more than a dozen markets, including DMB's home base of Charlottsville, VA; Hartford, CT; Burgettstown, PA; East Troy, WI; Noblesville, IN; West Palm Beach, FL; George, WA; and Boston. The full itinerary is listed below.

A slew of acts will take turns in the tour's opening slot, including Jason Mraz, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Avett Brothers, Robert Earl Keen, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, the Hold Steady, and Femi Kuti & the Positive Force, to name a few. Details about which acts will appear at each show can be found in a blog posting at Dave Matthews Band's MySpace page.

Tickets for the newly announced summer dates go on sale to the general public starting March 12, and fan club members can start requesting their tickets today (2/19) at DMB's fan-association website.

Meanwhile, the rockers have pushed back the release of their next studio album to June 2. The as-yet-untitled set, produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), is the followup to 2005's "Stand Up," the fourth consecutive Dave Matthews Band effort to enter the US album chart at No. 1.

In addition to DMB members Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar), Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass) and Boyd Tinsley (violin), the group will be joined on the record and on the road by guitarist Tim Reynolds, trumpeter Rashawn Ross and saxophonist Jeff Coffin.

Dave Matthews Band suffered a tragic loss during its 2008 tour, when founding member LeRoi Moore died at age 46 of complications related to injuries he suffered in a June all-terrain vehicle accident. The group's forthcoming "Live Trax Vol. 14" set will capture the saxophonist's final concert performance in Bristow, VA, last summer. Proceeds from the recording will be donated to charitable organizations that best reflect Moore's spirit and passions, according to DMB's website.
