House Majority Leader Moves To Block Marilyn Manson Concert

House Majority Leader Dick Armey has written a two-page letter to the management of Dallas' Reunion Arena, asking that they reconsider allowing Manson to perform a show scheduled there for Tuesday (3/23). In his letter, sent on personal letterhead, Armey said that Manson's lyrics "tout suicide, torture and murder," according to a Dallas Morning News report.

Armey also noted in his letter training sessions arranged during last year's Manson tour to alert parents, school officials and law officers to the ''violence that a Manson show could trigger.''

The Republican Representative indicated that he was writing as a father of five, and asked the venue's management to ''take into consideration the problems associated with past Manson concerts and the potential negative consequences that this concert could have on our children and our community''.

Venue officials issued a written statement in reply to Armey's letter, stating that they appreciate his concerns and would enhance security for the concert.

The Dallas show is expected to be the third show that Manson will play without Hole once the tour picks up Sunday (3/21) in Houston. Hole left the tour after last Sunday's show at the Great Western Forum, citing differences over production costs. Manson was subsequently forced to cancel three shows after falling and suffering a severe sprain to his ankle during the show.
