Akron/Family sets 'Free' release, maps shows
Indie-folkers Akron/Family have plotted a run of March dates to work out material from their upcoming new studio album in front of live audiences.
The group--now down to a trio following the departure of Ryan Vanderhoof--kicks off the outing March 1 in Santa Monica, CA. The trek, which runs through late March, includes multiple stops in several cities, including a March 6-8 stretch in San Francisco and a March 10-12 run in Los Angeles. Dates are below.
"Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free," the group's fourth studio album, is due in stores May 5. Released on Dead Oceans Records, the set is the band's first since parting from its longtime label, Swans' frontman Michael Gira's Young God imprint.
Akron/Family's previous set, 2007's "Love Is Simple," was the group's last recording with founding member Vanderhoof, who departed between the album's release and the start of the band's subsequent tour to "live in a Buddhist Dharma center," according to a press release.
Although the group has occasionally incorporated extra musicians into its live act, Akron/Family now primarily tours as a three-piece act (featuring Dana Janssen, Seth Olinsky and Miles Seaton).
