Singer Mariam Doumbia and her husband, guitarist/vocalist Amadou Bagayoko, will hit the road this summer to support their new studio album, which is set for release in North America next month.

The pair, who both hail from the Western African nation of Mali, will split the North American trip into two legs: a six-city headlining outing kicks off June 2 in Chicago, followed by a run of support dates with Coldplay [ tickets ] in July, starting with a July 10 appearance in Portland, OR. "Welcome to Mali," the duo's fifth studio album, was released last fall in Europe, and is due to emerge March 24 in the US. Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur and Gorillaz, produced three of the album's tracks, including the leadoff single, "Sabali."

Marc Antoine Moreau and Laurent Jai produced the rest of the set, which also features guest vocals from Somali poet/rapper K'Naan and Nigerian singer/songwriter Keziah Jones. A streaming version of "Sabali" can be heard at Amadou and Mariam's MySpace page.

The pair, both legally blind, met in the early '70s at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind and embarked on a performing career the following decade, after the couple was married. The duo's first official studio album, "Se Te Djon Ye," was released in 1999.
