Rise Against takes Rancid on summer jaunt
Melodic-hardcore rockers Rise Against are set to headline a North American summer tour with special guest Rancid.
Rise Against is currently in Europe and will trek through Australia and Japan before returning to the US for the May 3 Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, NJ. The band's American jaunt officially kicks off June 4 in Vancouver and makes its way across Canada and the US through the end of July, though more dates are expected, according to a press release. Stops include two-night stands in Boston and Orlando, FL. Details are listed below.
In addition to punk-rock heroes Rancid, Riverboat Gamblers and Billy Talent will take turns filling the opening slots (Gamblers in June and Talent in July). Tickets go on sale Feb. 28.
Rise Against continues to support its fifth studio album, "Appeal To Reason," which surfaced last fall and debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200. The lead single, "Re-Education (Through Labor)," was a Top 3 hit at modern-rock radio, and the band's latest track, "Audience of One," is currently holding a Top 20 spot on that chart. Both songs are streaming at the Chicago rockers' MySpace page.
With its growing fanbase, Rise Against is reaching more and more people with its politically and socially charged message.
"It's exciting and fun and I look forward to the next couple years with this record," frontman Tim McIlrath said in the band's bio. "Now that we have a fanbase, it's just a question of what are we going to do when we've been given the privilege that we've been given."
On the road, Rancid will tap into its catalog of music and introduce new material from its seventh studio album. The band's longtime producer, Brett Gurewitz, has finished mixing the yet-to-be-titled record, which is due this spring, according to the band's MySpace page.
Rancid's latest studio effort is 2003's "Indestructible," which peaked at No. 15 on The Billboard 200 and spawned the modern-rock hit "Fall Back Down." In late 2007, the band offered up "Rancid B Sides & C Sides," which includes previously unreleased material alongside songs that have been featured on compilations, soundtracks and B-sides.
