Keith Urban lines up 'No Frills' dates before big summer tour

Before Keith Urban sets out on the road in May on his latest mega-tour, the country star will roam the country for a slate of "intimate" shows in smaller venues.

Urban is teaming with Verizon on the "No Frills" mini-tour, which looks to reward fans who "interact with Urban's music on mobile, broadband and TV," according to a press release. Verizon customers who download Urban's music will have the opportunity to obtain tickets to the performances, according to the wireless company. More information on obtaining access to the outing can be found at Urban's website.

"Clubs are where it all began," the singer said in a statement. "There's just something about the way the band grooves and how the audience gets right up there close and personal, and I love it. So for me there's a nostalgic cool factor in doing this with Verizon."

The Verizon dates come just before Urban kicks off his "Escape Together" tour, which gets underway May 7 in Uncasville, CT. The spring/summer trek is currently slated for more than 30 cities through late August. Details are included below.

Urban is touring behind his forthcomingstudio album, "Defying Gravity," which is due March 31. The set's lead single, "Sweet Thing," is the singer's 18th Top 5 hit. The tune and its companion video are streaming at Urban's MySpace page.

Last year, Urban finished touring behind his latest chart-topping studio album, 2006's "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing," as well as 2007's best-of collection, "Keith Urban Greatest Hits: 18 Kids."
