Dinosaur Jr. to preview new material on the road

Alt-rockers Dinosaur Jr. will preview material from their forthcoming new album when they hit the road in April for a slate of spring headlining dates.

The noise-rock veterans, who returned from a 10-year hiatus with 2007's "Beyond" and subsequent tour, will make a March 20 appearance in Austin, TX, as part of the city's SXSW music conference before launching the tour proper April 1 in Milford, CT. Details on the trek, which runs through early May, can be found below.

During the outing, concertgoers will be given the opportunity to purchase a 7" tour-only single (or digital-download code) that represents the first fruit of the deal the band recently signed with the Jagjaguwar label. The single features a new track, "I Don't Want to Go There," from the band's new full-length album, which is due this summer.

The still-untitled forthcoming set will follow "Beyond," the reunited trio's first recording together since 1988's "Bug." The last studio album under the Dinosaur Jr. name was 1997's "Hand It Over," but that was primarily recorded by singer/guitarist J Mascis.

The group's other original members--bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph--left in the late '90s as tensions between the bandmates grew. Barlow focused his attention on his other project, Sebadoh, and Mascis eventually retired the Dinosaur Jr. name to work as a solo artist under the name J Mascis and the Fog. The three original Dinosaur Jr. members got back together in 2005 to support the reissue of their first three albums, and the reunion stuck.

"Beyond" reached No. 4 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 69 on The Billboard 200. A few songs from the set are streaming at Dinosaur Jr.'s MySpace page.
