Gavin DeGraw gets 'Free' on spring trek

Singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw has mapped a spring tour to support his forthcoming third studio album, "Free," which is due in stores March 31.

The singer, who kicks off the outing March 27 in Portland, OR, will spend most of April and about half of May on the road backing the new release, with more than 30 dates currently on the itinerary. Details are below.

DeGraw worked on "Free" with producer Camus Celli (Tina Turner, David Byrne), and was backed by an ace studio crew that included guitarist Audley Freed (Black Crowes), bassist Andy Hess (Gov't Mule), drummer Charley Drayton (Keith Richards' X-Pensive Winos) and keyboardist George Laks (Lenny Kravitz).

"My intention on 'Free' was to stay out of the way of the songs," DeGraw said in a press statement. "We kept the production very minimal in order to get everything that lies between me and the audience out of the way. By removing all the bells and whistles, you really make room for someone to pay attention to the songwriting."

The set follows DeGraw's self-titled 2008 set, helmed by Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance). That album, led by the leadoff single, "In Love with a Girl," peaked at No. 7 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
