Grand Ole Opry Announces Plans For 75th Anniversary Special
Nashville’s famous Grand Ole Opry radio show on Wednesday (8/2) announced plans for its upcoming 75th anniversary celebration. The event, scheduled for October, will feature appearances by a number of country music heavyweights, including Garth Brooks , Trisha Yearwood and Travis Tritt , according to the announcement.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. CT, and will air live during the Opry's weekly Saturday night radio show. Performances by Brooks, Yearwood and Tritt, as well as Vince Gill , Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and others are scheduled.
In addition to the live radio broadcast of the entire event, the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. hour of the celebration is scheduled to air live on the TNN television station.
According to a history posted on its website, the famous country radio show began airing in November of 1925, and was given the name Grand Ole Opry in 1928. The show’s popularity--and weekly in-house audience--quickly grew, causing organizers to move it from the radio studio to Nashville’s famous Ryman Theater in 1942.
In 1974, the show moved to its current home, the Grand Ole Opry House. Artists such as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and Minnie Pearl have performed there over the years.
