Coldplay To Play Britain And Ireland in October
LONDON--Mercury Music Prize nominated guitar band Coldplay has announced its first extensive U.K. tour, which will see them playing 17 dates beginning in Cambridge, England, on October 2.
The foursome, which started the band in 1998 while studying at University College London, released its first single "The Safety EP" that year, then was signed to Parlophone Records (home of Radiohead) in 1999. The group's first album "Parachutes" debuted on the U.K. album chart at No. 1; the LP is now leading the stakes to win Britain's prestigious Mercury Music Prize, which will be announced on September 12.
Coldplay has yet to release its music in the U.S. However, it was reported last week that they have signed a North American licensing deal with Nettwerk Productions.
