A Street Named Flaming Lips Alley
Officials from The Flaming Lips' hometown, Oklahoma City, will dedicate a street named in the band's honor Oct. 25 at 11:30 am, according to a press release. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will present the band with a street sign reading Flaming Lips Alley, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony that is expected to be more like a Lips' concert than a City Hall affair.
Two days later, Oklahoma City will launch the inaugural Ghouls Gone Wild Halloween Parade, designed to celebrate creativity and artistry in the state. The Flaming Lips will appear at the finishing point of the parade, along with 1000 volunteers comprising what the band calls a symbolic, supernatural procession. Participants in "The March of 1000 Flaming Skeletons 2007" will get to keep their skeleton costume and torch and will receive an exclusive event T-shirt.
In other Lips news, the band's music continues to be heard on TV and in the movies. The new Range Rover commercial features the song "Do You Realize??," and the new Ford Sync Technology commercial features the track "Pompeii Am Gotterdammerung," from the bands current album, "At War With the Mystics," according to the release. A new song, "Love the World You Find," appears in the movie and on the soundtrack for "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," scheduled to be released Nov. 16.
