Van Halen Plays Private Concert
From the "Coolest Boss Ever" file comes this tidbit: billionaire Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, booked Van Halen to put on a surprise show last night (11/15) at Toronto's Air Canada Centre for about 14,000 RIM employees and guests, The Canadian Press reports.
Also on the bill were Canadian natives The Tragically Hip, who opened the show; the pairing was similar to one Balsillie arranged several years ago when he booked Aerosmith and Canadian pop-rock outfit Barenaked Ladies.
As previously reported, Van Halen is in the midst of its first tour with original frontman David Lee Roth in 22 years, and recently added its first batch of 2008 dates to its schedule.
