Barenaked Ladies [ tickets ] will open an extensive arena tour in support of the forthcoming album “Maroon” (Reprise) in September. The oddball Canadian rock quintet’s follow-up to the multi-platinum 1998 release “Stunt” is due in stores on Sept. 12.

The tour is scheduled to kick off in the Detroit area on Sept. 22, and the first batch of dates run through Oct. 28. Barenaked Ladies are also scheduled to appear at the V2 festival outside London on Saturday and Sunday (8/19-20).

Tickets for the band’s appearances in Boston, Chicago and St. Paul, Minn., are on sale now; tickets are scheduled to go on sale in several other cities on Friday (8/18).

Reprise Records is promoting the new album with a series of Internet-based promotions. The LP’s first single “Pinch Me” is being streamed in various audio formats through Sept. 20 at the Reprise website. Five other tracks from the new album will be streamed for a week each on the site.

In addition, Liquid Audio is offering “Pinch Me” to radio station websites, and the band will perform a holiday radio concert for the station that logs the most downloads. Spinner.com is hosting a Barenaked Ladies radio channel featuring 125 songs programmed by the band.

Meanwhile, Alloy.com is sponsoring a “Hang With Barenaked Ladies in NYC” contest, Egreetings is developing a digital greeting card series based around the new album, and AOL plans to host a chat with the band during the week of the new album’s release.
