Matthew Good Band Dominates Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards Nominations

Canada's MuchMusic network has announced the nominations for its upcoming video awards ceremony, and Vancouver’s Matthew Good Band is the overwhelming favorite, with a total of 11 nominations. Other Canadian acts such as Choclair and Edwin also pulled down a hefty number of nominations, while American rock and pop acts filled most of the international categories.

Matthew Good Band received five nominations for its “Load Me Up” video, and three each for both its “Strange Days” and “Hello Time Bomb” videos. That batch of nominations pits the group against itself in four categories, including a Best Rock Video face-off between “Load Me Up” and “Hello Time Bomb,” the latter of which also garnered nominations in the People’s Choice categories for both Favourite Canadian Group and Favourite Canadian Video.

Rapper Choclair racked up the second highest batch of nominations, with six for his video “Let’s Ride,” and a seventh for “Rubbin'.” Former I Mother Earth rocker Edwin followed with six nominations total, four of which were for his “Alive” video and two for “And You.” Vocalist Chantal Kreviazuk, meanwhile, snagged five awards, all for her “Before You” video.

Rap act Dream Warriors and rockers Our Lady Peace each scored three nominations, Dream Warriors for its “Breathe or Die” video, and Our Lady Peace for “Is Anybody Home?”

American acts Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears, ‘N Sync and Limp Bizkit also received two nominations apiece, each with one in the Best International Video Category, and a second in either the People’s Choice Favourite International Group or Artist categories.

Canadian acts with two nods apiece were: Tragically Hip, the Moffatts, Joée, Abacus featuring Naomi Nsombi, Love Inc., Prozzäk, and Saukrates

The MuchMusic Video Music Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sept. 21, and will be broadcast live.
