SXSW Performer: Steve Poltz (San Diego, CA)

One of the most entertaining singer/songwriters on the scene today, Steve Poltz can take self-effacing humor to new levels. Best known as Jewel's boyfriend in the video for "You Were Meant For Me," a song he co-wrote, Poltz has sprung from that connection to release one of 2008's best albums so far. With "Traveling," he takes on a more serious note. The song "Haters' Union" features anguished, confessional lyrics over cascading strings. Back in the day, he did a killer rendition of "You Were Meant for Me," from a guy's point of view.

Performing Friday, March 14, at 10 p.m. on the 18th Floor of the Hilton Garden Inn (500 N IH 35).
