SXSW Performer: Darker My Love (Los Angeles/San Francisco, CA)
Considered something of an L.A. indie-scene supergroup when they came together in 2004 (frontman Tim Presley and drummer Andy Granelli paid their dues in punk outfit The Nerve Agents, while Granelli later spent time in The Distillers), the members of Darker My Love immediately carved out a niche for themselves by producing a steady stream of catchy and mildly psychedelic guitar workouts, and attracting a legion of fans through near-constant gigging in Hollywood's finest rock clubs. The group's impressive, self-titled debut came in 2006, but the biggest breakthrough, publicity-wise, may have happened earlier in the year when Presley and bassist Rob Barbato were tapped to join British legends The Fall as semi-permanent members on their US tour and subsequent studio album. Darker My Love remained intact, and is currently working on its sophomore studio set.
Performing Thursday, March 13 at 1 a.m. at BD Riley's (204 E. 6th St.).
