Radiohead Encourages Green Travel
Radiohead is asking fans to think about the environmental impact of traveling to and from concerts on the band's upcoming tour, which starts today (6/5) at Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL.
Last year, the band commissioned a carbon-footprint analyst to calculate the carbon generated on their two previous US tours, according to a press release. The report showed that the fans' travel to and from the shows accounted for the greatest proportion of the CO2 generated during each tour.
Following the report's recommendations, Radiohead is encouraging fans to consider public transportation where available. For shows outside of city centers, the band suggests carpooling. Some venues also have helped by offering incentives to fans coming to shows by public transportation or in a full car.
Concertgoers can compare the CO2 generated by different methods of transport by visiting an online calculator on Radiohead's website. After the tour, the band will invite ticket holders to submit information on their methods of travel so further research can be done on carbon emissions and methods to reduce them. Radiohead's production team also will be posting information on how the band is trying to reduce its own carbon emissions on tour without compromising the quality of the shows.
More information and a copy of the commissioned report can be found at the band's website.
