New Releases, Aug. 29: Patty Loveless, Ricky Skaggs, Scorpions, George Thorogood And Others

Patty Loveless tops this week’s new releases with “Strong Heart” (Epic), the follow-up to 1997’s “Long Stretch of Lonesome.” The album features guest appearances by fellow country stars Trisha Yearwood , Travis Tritt and Ricky Scaggs.

Loveless also turns up on “Big Mon: The Songs of Bill Monroe” (Skaggs Family), a tribute album put together by Ricky Skaggs. Other stars featured on the disc include Dolly Parton, John Fogerty, Dixie Chicks, Joan Osborne, Charlie Daniels and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Scorpions follow Metallica’s lead this week with the release of “Moment of Glory” (EMI Classics). The album features the German metalmeisters joined by a full orchestra while rocking to classics such as “Big City Nights,” “Wind of Change” and “Hurricane 2000,” a new version of their best-known fist-pumper.

“Anthology” (Capitol) is a 2-CD compilation album from George Thorogood & the Destroyers that features 30 previously released tracks, including “Bad to the Bone,” “I Drink Alone” and “One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer.”

Motown releases “The Supremes (Box)” this week, a 4-CD box set that features music by the Diana Ross-led trio. This summer’s Supremes reunion tour--featuring Ross with two replacement Supremes--was ultimately cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

“Master Musicians of Jajouka featuring Bachir Attar” is a self-titled album that teams these Moroccan mystics--best known for inspiring William Burroughs and the Rolling Stones' Brian Jones--with producer Talvin Singh. Singh brings the group up to date with techno-inspired production techniques.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Steve Earle back up John Wesley Harding, long heralded as "the next Dylan," on his latest album of crafted pop, “Confessions of St. Ace” (Mammoth).
