Not surprisingly, it was standing room only for Coldplay [ tickets ]'s show on Friday (7/18). San Jose's HP Pavilion was packed to the rafters with ecstatic, cheering fans on hand for one of a staggering number of dates the group plans to play this year throughout the US, Canada and Europe.

Frontman Chris Martin made a point of mentioning that the audience was "in fine form this evening," and the band clearly was riding high, its members beaming at the crowd and each other as they played a nice mix of new and old favorites.

Adding to the epic atmosphere in literally a huge way was a jawdroppingly beautiful backdrop (in keeping with the album's artwork) of Eugène Delacroix's classic painting "Liberty Leading The People."
