Chris Cagle Cleared Of Domestic Violence Charges
Chris Cagle was found not guilty of domestic violence charges yesterday (7/24) after his girlfriend refused to testify against him, according to the Tennessean.com.
The country singer and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, were charged with domestic violence after a drunken fight May 28; Cagle was found not guilty in a Davidson County court after Tant invoked the Fifth Amendment while on the stand and refused to answer the prosecutor's questions.
During the trial, an officer testified that Cagle said he pushed Tant to protect himself after she hit him on the head with an umbrella. Officers testified that Tant had a slight cut on her upper lip and also had marks on her arms.
Assistant District Attorney General Jenni Smith decided not to prosecute Tant and her case was dismissed.
In other legal news, Cagle is slated to stand trial for assault Sept. 23 in Tucson, AZ. That charge is related to a Dec. 13, 2007, incident outside a Tucson nightclub, according to published reports. He is accused of punching a man whose girlfriend reportedly became verbally abusive to Cagle when the singer stopped signing autographs for her following a performance.
