Britney Spears' father retains control of her finances
Britney Spears has "reluctantly agreed" to allow her father to continue making financial decisions on her behalf, according to the Los Angeles Times
A Los Angeles Court Commissioner yesterday (7/31) said the court-appointed conservatorship that allows James Spears to control Spears' finances will remain in place at least through the end of the year.
Commissioner Riva Goetz also ruled that the 26-year-old pop star must continue to pay one of the attorneys for the conservatorship $10,000 a week until the end of the year. If the conservatorship is extended, the payments could also be extended.
Last week, another court commission ruled that Spears must increase her child-support payment to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, from $15,000 to $20,000 a month.
In other legal news, an attorney for Spears reportedly said he will not seek an extension for a restraining order against Osama "Sam" Lufti, who had been accused of drugging Spears and taking over her life and finances. Regardless, Spears has made it clear she does not want to be contacted by Lufti, her attorney Samuel D. Ingham III said in a statement.
Ingham said the conservatorship gives James Spears adequate authority to keep Lufti from his daughter and legal action will be taken if he tries to contact her, according to an Associated Press report.
Lufti reportedly said he and James Spears had agreed that a temporary restraining order against him was no longer necessary.
