Union Labor Day fest planned during Republican National Convention
Tom Morello , Steve Earle , Mos Def and Allison Moorer will perform at the "Take Back Labor Day Festival" Sept. 1 at Harriet Island Regional Park in St. Paul, MN. Lupe Fiasco , Billy Bragg and Atmosphere also will perform at the show, which is being sponsored by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
The Labor Day festival, which organizers said is designed to raise awareness regarding the concerns of working women and men, will coincide with the Republican National Convention, scheduled Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Organizers planned the event to celebrate workers' achievements and promote a "New Vision for the 21st Century," that includes affordable, quality healthcare for everyone, wages that can support families, freedom to join unions without intimidation and retirement security, according to a press release.
The SEIU fest will cap the end of a three-state Labor Day Tour, from Aug. 29-31, that will offer journalists an opportunity for interviews and discussions with working men and women from across the US.
