Jimmy Buffett To Play New Year's Eve Show In Los Angeles

Jimmy Buffett will conclude his 1999 tour with an all-night New Year's Eve celebration at the Los Angeles-area Universal Amphitheatre, venue and Buffett sources have confirmed. Plans call for Buffett and his band the Coral Reefers to be the centerpiece of a 12-hour event which will feature continuous food, drinks and dancing in tented areas adjacent to the venue.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale June 26th via phone and through Ticketmaster Online. Ticket prices stated by the venue are $500, $1,000 and $1,500.

Buffett's latest album, Beach House on the Moon, resides at the #24 position on the Billboard pop album chart this week after debuting two weeks ago at #8. A recent Reuters interview with the 52-year-old musician revealed that the album is the last due under Buffett's current record deal.

Given Buffett's Internet-savvy fan base and his own disdain for record company politics, the possibility of an Internet release or some other method of directly reaching his fans for his next album is apparently plausible.

''All you need is distribution,'' Buffett told Reuters. ''You don't need marketing. You don't need promotional budgets. You don't need to be in there vying with the money they have to allocate to 20 or 30 other acts. Why should I pay rent on that?''

Buffet launched his 1999 spring / summer tour on June 1st in Charlotte, NC. The full tour to date involved 24 shows spread across thirteen weeks.
