Janet Jackson leaves Island Def Jam
Janet Jackson announced yesterday (9/22) that she is leaving Island Def Jam just a little more than a year after signing to the label, according to published reports.
The pop superstar had expressed dissatisfaction with the label after album sales for "Discipline," her only IDJ release, failed to meet her expectations.
According to a statement issued by her management company, Jackson will "have autonomy over her career without the restrictions of a label system." However, her recent Live Nation-promoted tour with LL Cool J and Donnie Klang has some speculating that she'll be the next performer to sign an all-inclusive deal with the mega music conglomerate.
