The fifth annual "VH1 Hip Hop Honors," scheduled to premiere Oct. 6, will pay homage to artists who have helped pioneer the genre, including Cypress Hill , De La Soul , Naughty by Nature , Slick Rick and Too Short , according to a press release.
This year's celebration, hosted by Tracy Morgan, will feature an extensive lineup of talent ranging from the early days of hip-hop through today's top acts. Chuck D, Busta Rhymes, Cee-Lo, Fat Joe, Flavor Flav, Gym Class Heroes, Mack 10, Queen Latifah and The Roots are among the recent additions to the show, which will tape Oct. 2 at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.
They join previously announced artists Big Boi, Biz Markie, Ghostface Killah, DJ Kaos, Kid Rock, MC Lyte, Lil' Jon, Q-Tip, Scarface, Wyclef Jean and others who will be on hand to pay tribute to the music and influence of the honorees.
In addition to the televised show, VH1 has launched a dedicated hip-hop website that showcases on-demand content leading up to and post the "Hip Hop Honors."
The new site features a "With Honors" section where this year's honorees speak in-depth about their ambitions, influences and careers. Also available on the site will be backstage coverage, "confessional interviews" in which the honorees share their greatest touring stories, and archived interview clips and music videos from honorees and performers.
Additionally, the full show will be available on the site in its entirety the day after the on-air premiere.
