Springsteen guitarist Nils Lofgren to undergo hip surgery
Nils Lofgren , best known as the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen 's E Street Band, was scheduled to get both of his hips replaced today at a New York City hospital.
"Due to a long, beautiful life on the road (40 years) that's included back flips with guitars, dive rolls, leaping off drum risers and trying to break stage floors with pounding legs due to the amazing energy I gratefully continue to get from you, the audience, in addition to thousands of hours playing aggressive basketball (my favorite sport to play) on mostly cement, city courts, I have finally destroyed both of my hips and they are both bone on bone with no cartilage left," Lofgren wrote in a message posted Saturday (9/27) at his website.
"Although I am understandably nervous, it is a hugely successful surgery and I have a great surgeon in a great hospital so I should come through it fine." He added. "... God willing, it will all go well and I'll recover completely."
Here's a fan-shot video of Lofgren on stage with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in July of this year, performing his showcase guitar solo on "Because The Night."
