50 Cent readies album, film

50 Cent will release his fourth major-label album, "Before I Self Destruct," Dec. 9, according to a press release. The album will be accompanied by a 90-minute film starring, written and directed by the hip-hop superstar.

For the album, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, returned to the studio with Dr. Dre and Eminem, both of whom produce and appear as guest artists on the set. Jackson previously worked with Dre and Eminem on his blockbuster first album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

The plot of the film, also titled "Before I Self Destruct," revolves around an inner city youth who takes up a life of crime to support his younger brother after their mother is gunned down.

"My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today," Jackson said in a statement. "There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city."
