Simple Plan [ tickets ] released a new single yesterday (10/14) via Apple's iTunes Music Store that will benefit international cancer charities, according to a press release. Net proceeds from each download sale of the song, "Save You," will be distributed to various cancer charities around the world.

"Save You" was written in tribute to lead singer Pierre Bouvier's brother, Jay, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 28.

Bouvier, who is now in remission, inspired the band to include cancer awareness as one of the initiatives of their Simple Plan Foundation, which has donated more than $100,000 to various charitable organizations in Canada. The band also has earmarked portions of their merchandise and ticket sales for the foundation, which has additionally raised more than $200,000 at various benefit events.

A companion video for "Save You" is currently in production. The clip will feature appearances from cancer survivors from all walks of life, including Sharon Osbourne, Broadway star Marissa Winokur, Barenaked Ladies' Kevin Hearn and Saku Koivu, captain of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens.
