Boz Scaggs show postponed after suspicious package found

Last night's (10/16) Boz Scaggs concert at McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA, was canceled after a package containing a suspicious white powder forced the evacuation and quarantine of the desert venue, according to local media reports.

The package, which was opened by McCallum staff, was addressed to Bill Maher , who is scheduled to perform at the theater tonight (10/17). A riverside County sheriff's spokesperson told the Desert Sun that the package contained specific threats made against the liberal political and social satirist.

A hazardous-materials team evacuated the venue, which was shut down for more than five hours.

Maher's appearance is expected to go forward as scheduled. Scaggs reportedly wants to reschedule his show but told the Sun that sheriff's officials told him not to comment because they plan to make an official statement about the situation.
