Stone Temple Pilots tap fill-in drummer
In the wake of his father's death, Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz has to sit out some dates on the group's massive reunion tour, prompting the band to recruit journeyman Ray Luzier.
"Due to the unfortunate passing of his father, drummer Eric Kretz will be taking a brief leave of absence from the Stone Temple Pilots tour dates this week in Texas and at the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans," reads an announcement posted at STP's website. Drummer Ray Luzier will be filling in for Eric and will be performing with the band at these shows."
Luzier's no stranger to half of STP's lineup; in 2006, he, along with Filter frontman Richard Patrick, teamed with brothers and Stone Temple Pilot members Dean (guitar) and Robert (bass) DeLeo to form the short-lived band Army of Anyone. The group played several STP songs during its lone tour, so Luzier has a head start on the material.
