John Hiatt, Buckwheat Zydeco Cancel Tours For Throat Surgery

Following an announcement just days ago that Buckwheat Zydeco frontman Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural was putting aside tour activity for three months to undergo throat surgery, John Hiatt has cancelled all dates on his Februrary itinerary to undergo similar surgery.

Hiatt's surgery will remove a throat cyst, which will leave him, like Dural, unable to perform for about three months. Prior to his surgery, Hiatt will keep an acoustic date at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival Music Studio in Utah this weekend. Hiatt had been scheduled to perform multi-night stands at New York's Bottom Line, Los Angeles' Troubadour and San Francisco's Great American Music Hall.

Hiatt is nominated for two 1999 Grammy awards, both tied to the re-recording of Have A Little Faith In Me included on his recent greatest hits collection.

Dural was poised to launch his 20th anniversary tour this month to coincide with the January 12th release of his latest effort, Trouble, released on Dural's own Tomorrow Recordings label. Dural was recently diagnosed with vocal cord lesions stemming from a condition known as severe leukoplakia, and was scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday (1/19) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Buckwheat Zydeco is expected to hit the road again in late April, with a date at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival April 23rd still in place at press time.
