As a child, Steve Winwood [ tickets ] was already learning to play drums, guitar and piano--even performing live with his family at the tender age of eight.

While still in school, the prodigy was backing the likes of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker [ tickets ], B. B. King and Bo Diddley [ tickets ] on Hammond B-3 organ and guitar. In 1963, at 15, he joined his brother "Muff" and guitarist Spencer Davis to form the Spencer Davis Group, releasing classics like "I'm a Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin" before cutting more classic material as a member of Traffic [ tickets ]. By the late '70s he'd moved onto a solo career that put the spotlight squarely on his unique vocals, resulting in hits like 1980's "Arc Of A Diver," and 1986's "Back in the High Life" and "Higher Love."

Now back in the fold with his latest album, "Nine Lives," he will be making the rounds on the US tour circuit in January.
