Christina Cancels Concerts in Virginia, Massachusetts Due To Strained Voice
Christina Aguilera has canceled her Monday night (9/11) performance in Virginia Beach due to a strained voice, according to her official website. The announcement follows Saturday night’s (9/9) cancellation of her concert in Massachusetts, and a previous cancellation in New York.
Aguilera’s doctors have asked the singer to take three days off to rest her "slightly strained" voice, according to the announcement on her website. Her tour is expected to resume as scheduled in Camden, N.J., on Friday night (9/15).
A spokesperson at the GTE Virginia Beach Amphitheatre said that Monday night’s show would not be rescheduled.
On Saturday night (9/9), Aguilera had to cancel her performance at Massachusetts’ Tweeter Center due to throat problems. That cancellation was announced about 90 minutes before the show was scheduled to begin, according to local reports. Tour organizers are working on a make-up date in the Boston area, according to Aguilera’s website.
Aguilera's Sept. 3 show in Syracuse, N.Y.--originally postponed due similar vocal problems--was ultimately cancelled outright when a make-up date could not be arranged.
“Mi Reflejo,” Aguilera’s Spanish album, is scheduled for release on Tuesday (9/12). The album contains Spanish versions of tracks featured on the singer’s self-titled debut album, as well as a number of new songs. “Christina Aguilera,” released in August of last year, was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America last month for shipping over 7 million copies.
“Genio Atrapado”--the Spanish version of Aguilera’s breakthrough hit “Genie in a Bottle" featured on “Mi Reflejo”--earned the singer a nomination in the Latin Grammy Awards' Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category. That event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday night (9/13).
