Ray Charles catalog going digital

The Ray Charles Foundation has entered into a deal with Concord Music Group to reissue the artist's post-1960 catalog, making much of the legend's music available digitally for the first time, according to a press release.

The reissue program kicked off last month with the digital-only "The Spirit of Christmas," which originally was released in 1985. The holiday set features several standards, including "What Child Is This," "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town."

In March, Concord will release a greatest-hits retrospective that will feature 21 songs, including "Georgia on My Mind," "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road Jack" and "You Are My Sunshine."

Throughout the rest of the year, Concord will reissue six key catalog albums as well as some digital-only exclusives. Among the releases will be a Starbucks-only anthology, "The Genius Hits the Road," "Genius + Soul = Jazz" and "Berlin, 1962."

The new, digital-only holiday collection will come out on CD for the 2009 Christmas season.
