Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for copying song
Joe Satriani filed a lawsuit last week against the members of Coldplay , claiming the band copied "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 song "If I Could Fly" for the hit "Viva La Vida," according to an Associated Press report.
The Coldplay hit, which has topped charts around the world and has been used in iPod commercials, was nominated for a Grammy last week.
The 52-year-old Satriani, who filed the copyright infringement lawsuit Thursday (12/4) in a Los Angeles federal court, wants a judge to order an accounting so he can determine how much money he may be owed. Otherwise, he reportedly wants the band to stop using the song.
