Featured Photos: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Warfield, SF, CA - Jan. 28, 2009

Anyone who has experienced Sharon Jones live will understand why some have dubbed her the Queen of Funk. Jones and her band the Dap-Kings are steeped in the high-energy sound that drove James Brown. In fact, Jones was born in Brown's hometown of Augusta, GA, and she seems to have adopted his tireless approach to touring.

Still riding the crest of the wave from their critically acclaimed 2007 release, "100 Days, 100 Nights"--which got a lot of attention because the Dap-Kings served as Amy Winehouse's backup band--the band has been on the road ever since, literally traveling to the other side of the globe and back, with no end in sight.

Fresh from a few dates in Australia, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings performed to a packed house last night (1/28) at San Francisco's Warfield Theatre. Here are some of the photos I took at the show.
